New band, new chapter - May 20, 2010
Howdy, folks...Well, things are rolling along pretty well up here in West Linn, just south of Portland, OR.I've put a new band together, Trio Bravo, and it's been real fun working up the tunes and playing them for loyal long-time fans and new folks. We're working towards a repertoire that would feature my songs and those written by my uncle Stan Jones exclusively. That's a whole lot of songs! Plenty to choose from to keep things fresh for the band and the audience. I'm real excited about the harmonies we're getting...both Jeff Woodcock on bass and Bob Love on guitar and pedal steel sing great, and the blend of our voices sounds pretty special. Check out the calendar to see where we will be playing and come out and see us.
A new Columbia chapter of the WMA (Western Music Association) has opened here close to home. The first meeting and musical get together for the chapter is happening June 13th in Stevenson, WA. I'm looking forward to heading up there to meet and greet and play a few tunes.
To follow up on a post from last year, I did go down to Texas last September for the AWA awards show. Some of you may remember that my last CD, "Ghost Riders, Searchers & Cowpokes", was nominated by the Academy of Western Artists as best western music album of 2009. Well, I didn't win, but my pal Michael Z and I had a fine time at the show, and carrying on afterwards with Liz Masterson and the other fine musicians in attendance was a highlight I'll never forget. I'm proud of that CD, and it was a real honor to be nominated
